Forrest Wasko is a non-binary artist based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Wasko likes to think of the act of photographing as collecting. The subjects they depict are often familiar surroundings and the everyday. By having a camera on them at all times, their photographic process becomes instinctual—a reaction to a moment and place. Although presented as straight photographs, Wasko would not consider the images to be documentary or journalistic—rather, they are a way of turning the visible world into a reflection of their own thoughts. Using this collection of images, they edit them together to create narratives in the form of photo series, installations, and photo books. Wasko has exhibited their work locally and nationally, and was a recipient of the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council's Next Step Fund in 2023.
